Hi all. It's Karissa, AKA the unsuspecting young lady in the image below. As of November 16, 2013 Matt and I had been dating for almost four years. On this particular evening, his sister was in town from out of state for a school trip. That night we met her and a friend downtown Chicago for dinner. I knew we would have some time between her school's curfew and our train, so the plan was to head to Matt's work and take some pictures from the roof which he has access to for his job.
Again, we had been together for nearly four years, so everyone (myself included) was expecting us to get engaged sometime soon. Knowing the evening's plan, I had even jokingly said to a few friends "He should just ask me on the roof. It'd be so easy." However, I was 99.99999% sure that he hadn't asked my dad's permission, and I KNEW that he didn't have a ring. Well... thought I knew...
The small light you see in his hand is a remote for his camera which allowed him to be all "Hey, lets take some of us!"Okay! Fun night... cool background... Still thought this would make an excellent engagement plan had it actually been an engagement...
Oh wait...
"I have a surprise for you."
At this point I was probably saying "This isn't real!" for the hundredth time.
Once I found my brain I got out a very enthusiastic "YES!"
And yes... there was bouncing and clapping involved.
I think this is my favorite picture ever.
When we came back inside Matt had champagne waiting for us.
And of course we had to make some very happy and sometime slightly tearful calls.
